“The death of free internet” at hotels?

Guests’ online sessions are becoming much longer, clogging the system

These days, a third of hotel guests are travelling with three mobile devices – smartphone, laptop and tablet computer. The chief executive of iBahn, a hotel broadband provider, alleges that data usage per online hotel session in its customer hotels has increased by 150% on average over the last 15 months. Since the demand for video online is rising fast, hotels are now struggling to provide guests with high-speed Wi-Fi at peak times. This could lead to “the death of free internet” at hotels, in a future where guests are allowed to, say, check their email for free but are charged for watching online movies and TV shows.
