Aarhus and Central Denmark win gastronomy title

City and region to be European Region of Gastronomy 2017
Culture and gastronomy appear to go hand-in-hand in the Danish city of Aarhus and the Central Denmark region, which has just been awarded the title of European Region of Gastronomy 2017.
“The title is a great honour and a major recognition for Aarhus and the region, which has already been awarded European Capital of Culture 2017. Food will be integrated in new and inventive ways in many of our cultural projects for 2017,” said Rebecca Matthews, chief executive of European Capital of Culture Aarhus 2017.
The common denominator between European Capital of Culture and the European Region of Gastronomy is an ambition to inspire citizen participation and create sustainable solutions.
“The two prestigious titles will contribute to cultural understanding, innovation and better quality of life in our region,” said Erik Sejersen, head of department of the Central Denmark Region.
The title European Region of Gastronomy 2017 is awarded by the International Institute of Gastronomy, Culture, Arts and Tourism. The official ceremony will take place on September 29, at an event in the EU pavilion of the world exhibition EXPO 2015 in Milan, Italy.
