Accor aims high in India, opens in Phuket

Group wants to be India’s leading foreign hotel group by 2015

Accor is stepping up its expansion in India, with 11 hotel openings scheduled for 2012 alone. The country is experiencing an economic boom, yet its hotel market is still undeveloped and currently represents only 150,000 rooms – the equivalent of the number of rooms available in Shanghai alone. That gives it significant potential, according to Accor. The group’s objective is to become India’s leading foreign hotel group by 2015, with 90 establishments.
April is a particularly active month, with the inauguration of five hotels, including the launch of its first “combo” in Bangalore, combines the Novotel Bengaluru TechPark and the ibis Bengaluru Techpark, which opened in September 2011.
Meanwhile, in related news, Accor has just opened a new hotel in the Thai resort of Phuket. The new-build resort Novotel Phuket Vintage Park, located in Patong, features 303 rooms, all including flat screen TVs and free Wi-Fi. There are also three meeting rooms, a ballroom, a 2,000 sq m swimming pool, kids’ club and other facilities. It is the 11th Novotel hotel in Thailand and second in Phuket.
