Accor launches “geolocating” social media app

Loyalty club members able to earn points by revealing locations

Hotel giant Accor says it is launching a new app that “provides proof of the group’s desire to grow in the mobile sector and on social networks”. The app, called A|Club Places, allows members of Accor’s loyalty program of the same name to earn extra points by downloading it on Facebook and then identifying themselves in one of 2,300 participating hotels. In this way, the “geolocation app” rewards the loyalty of its members if they post a mobile “check-in” on Facebook.
These points can later be used in the form of A|Club reward cheques with the group’s hotels, or with program partners or in the form of air miles.
