Accor wants to expand in Baltics

Europe’s biggest hotel company plans to expand in Estonia

Almost a decade after opening a Novotel in a new landmark property in the Lithuanian capital Vilnius, Europe’s biggest hotel company says it is planning to expand its presence in the Baltic countries. Accor is not present at all in Estonia or Latvia, but in the late nineties a management contract existed with the Grand Hotel Mercure Tallinn. That ended in June 2000 due to mediocre occupancy rates. According to Feliks Mägus, head of the Estonian Hotel and Restaurant Association, company representatives have scheduled meetings with hotel managers in Estonia, to take place in the near future.
“They are likely to offer a management service or franchise, without guaranteeing revenues to the hotel owner – just like all large international hotels,” he said. “If someone is found here who is ready to accept their offer, then they will be successful.”
