airBaltic adopts Vilnius-Stockholm and other routes

Latvian carrier steps in to replace suspended Air Lituanica flights
The Latvian airline airBaltic has replaced flights and rescue stranded passengers hit by Friday’s suspension of operations by Lithuanian carrier Air Lituanica.
“Our home market for airBaltic is Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia,” Martin Gauss, airBaltic’s chief executive officer, emphasized. “We will consolidate and strengthen our service in our home market by offering more direct flights.”
He added: “We announce the first direct routes out of Vilnius to Western and Northern Europe today and will evaluate additional ones gradually. We will rescue the stranded passengers in the first days following the suspension of flights, and will offer special rescue fares for customers booked for flights later in the summer.”
Gauss took the opportunity to stress that the “event in Vilnius is a strong signal that the three Baltic countries should take a common approach to their aviation, to best support travellers, new economic activity and new jobs.”
airBaltic said it would offer all passengers holding Air Lituanica tickets for travel on or after June 6 special one-way fares of between €59 and €89, to be booked via its call centre. It also announced the “immediate opening” of new direct routes from Vilnius to Stockholm, Helsinki, Berlin, Brussels, Paris and Warsaw, in addition to its existing Vilnius routes to Amsterdam and Riga.
