airBaltic beats SAS and Norwegian in punctuality

On-time performance results for airlines and airports globally

Aviation intelligence analysts OAG have announced their Punctuality League 2014 for worldwide airlines and airports. At the top of the airline tables, Latvian carrier airBaltic won the battle across all airlines globally with a rating of 94.9%, performing significantly better than the average.

However, “many airports and airlines achieved in excess of 90% on-time performance within 15 minutes of schedule – no mean feat given the complexities and challenges faced by the aviation industry today,” John Grant, OAG’s executive vice president, pointed out.

OAG now holds nearly 10 years of global flight status and on-time performance data. It captures information on around 93% of scheduled airline operations across the globe on a daily basis.

After airBaltic, Hawaiian Airlines came in second (92.3%) and Austrian Airlines third (90%). Top low-cost carriers were Norwegian (89.7%), Thai AirAsia (88.7%) and EasyJet (87.7%).

Best-performing airlines in Europe: airBaltic, Austrian Airlines, Iberia (89.7%), Norwegian, KLM (89.4%), SAS (89.1%), Finnair (88.6%), EasyJet, Air Europa (87.1%) and Lufthansa (87.1%).

Airports are also ranked for on-time performance, with the UK’s Bristol Airport getting top position  in the world (94.4%), followed by Brussels South Charleroi and Berlin Schönefeld. Among large airports, Munich placed top (89%), followed by Tokyo Haneda and Seattle. OAG’s full Punctuality League 2014 report can be found here.
