Airbnb in talks to buy Chinese rival

Home-sharing site prefers to partner with competitor
Rather than enter the massive market that is China in competition with existing home-sharing sites there, Airbnb plans to partner one of its biggest sites.
Airbnb is said to be in talks to buy rival home-sharing site Xiaozhu.com, according to press reports. A deal would give it a rapid boost in its plans to expand in the world’s most populous country.
Further details about the discussions are not yet available. Other US tech startups such as Uber have struggled to enter in the Chinese market, where competition from homegrown imitators is fierce.
Airbnb currently has a fairly small presence in China, with just 30 employees, limited marketing and 75,000 home listings compared to its 3 million listings worldwide.
Beijing-based Xiaozhu launched in 2011 and has listings right across China, with most Chinese users prefering to rent whole apartments rather than just a room.
