Airbnb to expand with immersive experiences

Move marks biggest expansion of online rental service
Airbnb plans to offer fully immersive holiday experiences as it expands its business model beyond simply hosting. It wants guests to plan and book every part of their trips on its site.
Unveiling the idea at an event in Los Angeles, CEO Brian Chesky said users would be able to create a handcrafted itinerary, for a couple of days or just a couple of hours, to provide them with an authentic local experience.
The new model shifts some of the responsibility of choosing activities to Airbnb and its hosts, so that hosts and locals can offer their own tours and events – giving tourists guidance on what they can do when they reach a new destination.
It marks the most dramatic expansion of Airbnb’s home and apartment rental service since it was founded eight years ago, Chesky said.
