Airbus postpones first A350 handover date

More test flights needed for “very minor issues”

Airbus is doing more test flights on the A350 for “very minor issues” – just days before it is scheduled to give the plane to launch airline Qatar Airways. A handover ceremony planned for tomorrow has been postponed and no new date has been set.

“We planned 10 days for the delivery process,” Didier Evrard, head of A350 production, said. “It was perhaps a little bit optimistic knowing it was the very first aircraft.”

However, he added that he was confident the plane would be delivered before the end of 2014. Airbus chief executive Tom Enders also said he was confident of delivery before the end of the year.

“The plane is ready, it’s on the tarmac. I’m confident delivery will be very soon,” he told investors at an event in London.

Qatar Airways is the biggest customer for Airbus’ new-generation wide-body aircraft. As previously reported, Emirates cancelled an order for 70 A350s in June.
