Airlines boost Asia-Europe MICE demand

Malaysia to see more MICE groups from Europe

Travel agents in Malaysia say there will be growth in the incentive business from Europe this year – in particular from Eastern Europe – thanks to better air connections to the region offered mainly by Middle Eastern airlines.
Qatar Airways has increased frequencies to Warsaw from four flights weekly to daily. Emirates has launched daily flights between Dubai and Warsaw and also flies daily to Prague. Between Dubai and Kuala Lumpur, Emirates has boosted its services this summer season from 26 weekly flights to 28.
As a result, Alex Lee, head of Ping Anchorage Travel & Tours in Terengganu, expects to see a 10% year-on-year increase in business mainly from the Czech Republic, Poland and Hungary for the coming European summer season.
Although incentive groups from Eastern Europe tend to be small, with less than 50 people each, Lee says it is a “good market to tap as the economy is growing, compared to Central Europe”.
Arokia Das, senior manager of Luxury Tours Malaysia, projects a 50% rise in incentive business from the region for the European winter season based on advanced requests.
“Our advantage is that many incentive groups have already been to Bali, Phuket and Bangkok and are now looking for new destinations,” he said.
