Newspaper lists airlines that have shown compassion
Not all airlines treat their customers terribly, British newspaper the Independent points out, listing stories of how some carriers and their pilots and employees have displayed touches of humanity.
When the pilot of a Southwest Airlines plane already taxiing towards the runway learned that a passenger’s 24-year-old son had had an accident and was in a coma, he returned to the gate, escorted her from the plane, asked her to call her husband and booked her on the next flight to where her son was.
“They offered a private waiting area, rerouted my luggage, allowed me to board first and packed a lunch for when I got off the plane in Denver,” she said, all at no charge.
Etihad aborted the take-off of a flight last year to allow a couple to disembark to see their dying grandson, while Flybe has be known to show compassion for passengers in similar circumstances.
Other airlines namechecked in the article for incidents where they put their passengers first include Turkish Airlines, British Airways, Jetblue and Qatar Airways.
