Virgin America flights become Alaska from April 2018
Alaska Airlines is to rename flights operated under the Virgin America brand, selling them as Alaska Airlines flights, from 25 April 2018. The two carriers will merge into a single operating certificate in January.
Users of Virgin America’s website will be directed to Alaska’s site from that day in April.
“Alaska Airlines has posted the new Airbus schedule for flights after April 24,” Alaska said in a memo to employees obtained by FlightGlobal. “The flights will be Alaska flights and will only be available through Alaska channels […] or through travel agencies and booking sites.”
The memo adds: “Guests who try to book an Airbus flight scheduled for after April 24 through Virgin America’s website or app will be redirected to”
Alaska, which flies an all-Boeing 737 fleet, bought Virgin America, which operates A320-family aircraft, in late 2016. Earlier it said that the Virgin America brand would disappear only in 2019.
