Alitalia and unions avoid 1900 job losses

Deal is prerequisite for tie-up with Etihad Airways

Alitalia unions have announced that they have reached agreement with the airline’s management to avoid job dismissals for 1,900 employees.

Announced in a statement by the union FIT-CISL, the deal is part of a restructuring plan for the heavily indebted airline and a prerequisite for a tie-up with Etihad Airways, the news agency Reuters reports.

As previously reported at the beginning of February, Etihad Airways has entered the final phase of due diligence for a possible investment in the Italian flag carrier.
