Alpine tourism given boost at theALPS 2011

Full version of theALPS trade event to be held in Innsbruck next week

The international trade event theALPS will take place in Innsbruck on June 5 to 7. What began as in idea in the Tyrol in 2007 has grown in recent years to become a transnational trade fair and networking concept for European Alpine tourism. The initiators and hosts are Tirol Werbung (Tyrol Tourist Board), the chambers of commerce, the Innsbruck Tourist Association and its holiday villages as well as the Austrian National Tourist Office. The Alps are a tourist attraction with around 375 million overnight stays annually. The needs of tourists seeking an Alpine destination are very similar, say the event’s organisers – a mountain experience both in summer and in winter, unspoiled nature and authenticity.
At theALPS 2011, tourism suppliers from partner regions and destinations will be presenting their services. These include the top 12 Alpine destinations of the “Best of the Alps” alliance as well as the regions of Bavaria, Grisons, Carinthia, Rhône-Alpes, Styria, Salzburg, South Tyrol, Tyrol, Trentino, Vorarlberg and Valais. They represent around two-thirds of the overnight business in the Alpine region.
The event begins with keynote speeches and a “Google the Alps” discussion about future communication in tourism, presented by Google.
