Alps may get 381m hotel with one room per floor

Hotel and spa in Vals, Switzerland, may open in 2019
A hotel and thermal spa in Vals, Switzerland, will have an eye-catching design when it is due to open in 2019, with a wafer-thin hotel tower peering across the landscape.
Entrepreneur Remo Stoffel, who was born in Vals, bought a property formerly known as Therme Hotel & Spa from the local community three years ago. It has been renamed 7132 Hotel, 7132 being the postal code of Vals and now also the name of Stoffel’s owning company.
7123 has picked a controversial design by American architect Thom Mayne of Morphosis for its new tower, a slender 381m tall building with 107 rooms – virtually one room per floor – with a transparent exterior sheen that will mirror the mountains.
But first the company must win approval from the community. A gallery with large-scale models and full details is being set up at 7132 Hotel and will be open to view in October.
Meanwhile, renovations at the existing hotel, which comprises a main wing and another wing called Selva House, were completed last month. The latter, renamed House of Architects, now has new rooms and suites designed by Japanese architects with minimalist design and unique effects, for example warm, curved wooden panels to create a soft cocoon of a room, and a triangle off a rectangular space for the bathroom.
