Arlanda delays cause misery for thousands

Technical fault causes flight delays throughout Saturday

A technical fault at Sweden’s biggest airport meant travel misery for thousands of air passengers on Saturday. The fault emerged at 9am and caused heavy delays at Stockholm Arlanda before being corrected in the early afternoon. Delays continued through most of the day.

“There was a problem with a circuit board,” Klas Nilsson at the Swedish aviation agency LFV said on Saturday afternoon. “They have now changed it and rebooted the systems.”

The fault originated in the air traffic control tower, making it impossible for the tower and aircraft to communicate. But despite the delays, people waiting at the airport described the atmosphere as calm and orderly.

“It’s very rare that something like this happens,” another LFV representative said.
