BA confirms 1,200 bmi job losses

bmi is losing around €3.5 million every week

Up to 1,200 job losses may be on the way because of the takeover of bmi from Lufthansa by British Airways and Iberia parent company IAG. BA justifies this by saying that without the merger bmi would have to close down completely with 2,700 redundancies. bmi is currently losing around €3.5 million every week.
BA is talking to trade unions on how to integrate bmi mainline into its operations at Heathrow, closing the airline’s head office at Castle Donnington in the UK’s Midlands and at regional airports. BA proposes that up to 1,100 bmi cabin crew, pilots and engineers based at Heathrow could transfer to BA. Meanwhile, talks are continuing with potential buyers for bmibaby and bmi Regional.
