Bali hotels beef up security measures

Hotel association holds workshop, announces radio

The Bali Hotels Association is attempting to strengthen its members’ security against terror threats, holding a security workshop attended by 78 security and training managers. As reported, concerns about terrorism in Bali have risen with the recent arrest of 11 terrorist suspects in central Java. The workshop featured guest speakers from the British and Australian embassies. The hotel association has also unveiled a new version of its Hotel Security and Safety Self-Assessment Tool, while the Bali Security Managers Association is getting hotels involved in a “security and safety emergency radio communications system”.
Meanwhile, there is visibly tighter police security at Bali’s Gilimanuk, where ferry services connect the resort island with Java. But the travel trade is reporting business as usual.
In related news, Accor has opened the 201-room Mercure Bali Nusa Dua this week, the fourth property in the destination under the Mercure label. Three meeting rooms with a capacity of up to 200 pax will accommodate conferences, weddings and other events. The hotel is offering a launch promotion with discounted room rates valid until December 20.
