Destinations closer to home are popular among Swedes this Easter, but more distant cities are out of favour.
Swedes are choosing to stay closer to home during Easter 2019, new data from Hotels.com shows, with distant destinations taking a hit compared to last year.
New York, one of the most favoured travel destinations for Swedes in the past with a top-three placing among the favourite destinations this time last year, has now fallen to eighth place.
And Dubai, previously in sixth place, and Rome in seventh place in 2018, have now tumbled out of the top ten list altogether.
Instead, the new popular Easter destinations are Berlin and Amsterdam, neither of which was in last year’s list.
Easter staycations – staying at home or holidaying in Sweden – are also proving more popular. Both Stockholm and Gothenburg find themselves in the top three this year.
The list is based on online searches conducted between December 21 and March 20, for check-in between April 18 and 28. Last year’s list was also based on searches for stays during Easter 2018.
