One of Sweden’s biggest travel agency chains has bought Akademikerresor, an agency focused on business and conference trips.
BIG Travel is continuing its expansion as one of Sweden’s biggest travel agency chains by buying into the corporate travel market.
The company, which merged with the Resecity travel agency four months ago and bought Ystad just over a year ago, has now acquired Akademikerresor, an agency in Stockholm focused on business and conference trips.
Part of the business union Akademikertjänst, Akademikerresor is also a member of several associations in the Swedish Confederation of Professional Associations (SACO).
The company and its employees will now move to BIG Travel’s new head office in Mörby Centrum in Danderyd to the north of Stockholm.
“BIG Travel is currently undergoing adaptation to the new conditions that await the travel industry. Academic travel is well suited to our changing strategy,” says BIG chief executive Stig Sjöblom.
“This strategy is based on closer collaboration with our customers, focusing on better meeting the needs of the customers, and we are looking forward to participating in our continued development.”
Lena Mägiste, president of Akademikerresor, adds: “We are very positive about belonging to BIG Travel and developing our business. Our customers in the trade unions are very pleased with our way of doing business and organising conference trips according to their wishes. We will continue to deliver a high quality service to our customers.”
BIG Travel currently runs 29 stores in Sweden, operations in Denmark and Norway and VIP Travel in Finland. The tour operator Reseshopen in Ljusdal is also part of the group. Globally, it has cooperation with Radius Travel.
Owned by Taptum AB, the company says that “with more than 30 years of experience, our goal is to be the obvious choice for the traveller. By gathering the market’s range of travel, flights and hotels in one place, we can offer our customers the best possible price and service for all types of travel.”
