Fast-expanding Swedish travel agency reaches Ystad

Swedish agency BIG Travel has agreed with Mats Persson, owner of Ystad Travel Agency, to take over his company and its employees. Ystad becomes BIG’s 34th unit.

The Malmö-based company is in an expansive period, having recently merged with the Swedish agency network Resecity, bought a majority stake in the Finnish agency Via Vip and established itself in both Denmark and Norway.

“Ystad Travel Agency is a well-managed and well-established travel agency that fits well with our plans for further expansion,” says Jan-Anders Holmqvist, BIG Travel’s chief executive.

Persson stated: “I do not believe in the future of the small travel agency, but big volumes and unique technology combined with knowledgeable and committed staff will be crucial for travel agencies’ survival.”

Easy decision
Persson continued: “In conversation with BIG Travel, who wanted to set up in Ystad, I was able to announce early that we have both knowledgeable and committed staff and good facilities in central Ystad that fit well into BIG Travel’s expansion, so the choice to let Ystad Travel Agency become part of BIG Travel was very easy.

“The travel agency’s customers will meet the same staff in the same premises where the difference will be a new sign on the wall and new business cards, which feels very good and was important to me when I decided to sell.”

Globally, BIG Travel has cooperation with Radius Travel and is active in three business areas – business travel, private travel and group and conference travel.
