Bolshoi dancers in first ballet in the sky

Dancers from Russia’s internationally renowned Bolshoi Ballet and Welsh mezzo-soprano Katherine Jenkins staged “the world’s first ballet and musical performance in the air”, according to British Airways, to celebrate BA’s new Dreamliner flights from London Heathrow to Moscow.
Evading the usual high prices and long waiting lists to see the famed dancers in action, lucky passengers on the inaugural flight witnessed the surprise performance by Bolshoi stars Artemy Belyakov and Olga Marchenkova in the cabin’s tight space. Jenkins, meanwhile, gave a rendition of ‘Somewhere over the Rainbow’.
“Being a part of the oldest ballet theatre in the world, dancers from the Bolshoi Ballet have performed in some incredible places over the past 240 years – but a ballet in the sky takes it to a whole new level. I enjoyed that experience,” said Marchenkova.
The 787-9 flight to Moscow initially operates weekly, increasing to twice-weekly from January 3. British Airways currently has 14 of the aircraft type in service, on routes between Heathrow and Austin, Boston, San Jose, Shanghai and Tokyo Narita, amongst others.
