Brokering continues to avoid Norwegian strike

Cabin staff fear that Norwegian will outsource them

Brokering is continuing to avoid a strike at Norwegian that could cut flights across Scandinavia from April 30. Norway’s Parat Union is telling more than 1,300 of the airline’s employees to walk out unless the carrier agrees to a joint collective bargaining agreement for cabin crew by that date.

Media suggest that a mediator must now be found to avoid a possibly hugely damaging conflict.

Last month Norwegian transferred its cabin crew to Cabin Services Norway and Cabin Services Denmark, two companies the airline established in 2013.

Cabin staff fear that Norwegian’s next move will be to sell these two companies, removing the airline from responsibility to make agreements with the union and hire them instead from a staffing company. The union therefore wants to maintain the current agreement for cabin crews.
