A global business partner for managed travel will pilot Amadeus’ NDC-enabled solution, to prepare for full adoption in 2019.
Earlier this year, travel tech firm Amadeus launched the NDC-X Program, aimed at “industrialising” New Distribution Capability – a data transmission standard promoted by the International Air Transport Association that enhances smoother communications between airlines and travel agents.
Now Amadeus has revealed that American Express Global Business Travel is joining NDC-X.
More specifically, the solution will be used to test the new NDC flow, namely to ‘shop, order, pay’. It will help American Express GBT prepare for the implementation of the industrialised version of the NDC solution, likely to take place in 2019.
“By working with Amadeus we already have access to a broad array of travel content. Now with NDC, we’ll be able to offer even more to our clients. This content will be available through all points of sale, whether digital self-service or agent tools,” said Michael Qualantone, executive vice president of global supplier relations at American Express Global Business Travel.
“No matter how the industry evolves, cost efficiency and service quality are always going to be among our top priorities, and working on the NDC-X program with Amadeus, our longstanding distribution partner, enables us to achieve this.”
NDC-X brings together all NDC initiatives in the organisation, such as IT vendor and aggregator. Amadeus, which has more than 15,000 employees, is working with a number of airlines and travel agencies to run the implementation of NDC in the industry.
“Having an innovative and customer service driven partner like American Express GBT join our NDC-X program and work with our NDC-enabled solution is a great milestone as we prepare for global deployment next year,” added Gianni Pisanello, vice president of the NDC-X program at Amadeus.
