Business travel more costly in Nordics in 2012

Scandinavia will see varying travel and hotel rate increases this year

Expensive business trips are predicted for 2012, according to the international business travel agency American Express Global Business Travel, which made an extensive study of price trends in the business travel market at the end of last year. From Denmark, intercontinental flights in economy class may increase by up to 5% (business-class flights are expected to grow by 3%), while hotel nights in Denmark could cost up to 4% more than they did in 2011 (up 3.3% at intermediate level, 4% in luxury hotels).
However, short-haul flights within Europe will see price increases of up to 2% in business class and + / – 1% in economy class.
The lowest prices in the Nordic countries are found in Denmark. It is getting even more expensive to stay in Sweden and Norway, where American Express forecasts price increases of up to 8.6% on Norwegian mid-range hotels in 2012.
Kaveh Atrak, general manager of American Express Global Business Travel, Scandinavia: “The new figures show that companies will see increases in business travel, both within and outside the region. In a time of economic uncertainty this requires careful planning and a clear travel strategy.”
