Cabin crew union demands Norwegian investigation

Union stands in way of approval to fly more US-Europe routes

The biggest cabin crew union in the USA is demanding an investigation of Norwegian’s staff and business practices. The request comes ahead of the carrier getting approval to fly routes between the US and Europe.

Norwegian wants to increase flights between Europe and the US with a new unit based in Ireland. The Irish government certified a subsidiary, Norwegian Air International, as an airline in February but approval by the US Department of Transportation has not yet been given.

The Association of Flight Attendants (AFA) has asked the US Department of Transportation, among others, to look for further information about the airline’s labour rules so that employees are protected against any possibility to circumvent international labour laws.

“AFA remains firmly opposed to any business model that targets the employment security of flight attendants and aviation workers,” the union said.
