Carlson Rezidor moves into Cyprus – and Iraq

Chain signs up for Radisson Blu in Larnaca and Erbil
Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group is making its move into Cyprus, its 80th market, with the signing of a franchise agreement with property owner Quality Group for the construction of the Radisson Blu Hotel & Residence Larnaca.
An upper upscale property, it will comprise of 105 units as well as serviced apartments and will be situated in the port area of Larnaca, to be managed by Sunnyseeker Hotels.
The hotel will mark the town’s inaugural internationally branded hotel and is expected to reach completion by summer 2017.
More adventurously, Carlson Rezidor has also announced this week its inaugural hotel in Iraq, the Radisson Blu Hotel Erbil, to be situated in the Kurdistan region. Already under construction, the new-build hotel is expected to open in 2017.
The upper upscale hotel, in the western suburbs of Erbil, will have 260 rooms, all-day-dining restaurant, speciality restaurant, lobby bar, meeting rooms and a ballroom, gym and spa.
“Our long-term strategy targets asset-light and sustainable growth with a specific focus on emerging markets,” Wolfgang Neumann, Rezidor Hotel Group’s president and CEO, enthused. “Kurdistan is one of the most interesting emerging markets in the Middle East. This prospering oil-rich region is not affected by instabilities in Iraq and offers considerable business potential. We carefully monitor and evaluate safety and security in Kurdistan and are confident that the region will experience further positive development.”
