Celebrity Cruises initiates $400 million fleetwide modernisation
Celebrity Cruises has announced a $400 million modernisation of its fleet over five years, starting in 2019.
The company’s president and chief executive, Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, said the overhaul – named the Celebrity Revolution – signalled “the largest investment [Celebrity] has ever made” to renovate its ships.
The revamp will see a redesign and reconfiguration of all staterooms across Celebrity’s nine ships as well as a new sun deck, refurbished lounge and new café on four of its ships.
The plans will make the current vessels closer in look and feel to the upcoming Celebrity Edge, launching in 2018.
“Celebrity Cruises has always been recognised as an innovative, trend-setting brand, and the Celebrity Revolution is just another instance in which we keep raising the bar in modern luxury travel,” Lutoff-Perlo said.
The accommodation refit, created by interior design consultancy Hirsch Bedner Associates, will replace the current layout, decor, bedding and storage onboard Celebrity’s ships to offer a “sleek, contemporary and comfortable” look, according to the line.
“We’re not just redesigning the staterooms, we’re tearing them down and building them back up,” said Brian Abel, vice-president for hotel operations.
As part of Celebrity Revolution, suite-class guests will get a new Retreat Sun Deck, which Celebrity says can “rival any high-end resort” as well as a “revitalised” Retreat Lounge where passengers can enjoy complimentary beverages, gourmet bites and live entertainment.
