Confusion hits SAS ticket sales

“Sales are falling, you can see that quite clearly”

Ticket sales are falling at crisis-hit SAS this week because of confusion and uncertainty about its future, an inside source tells Reuters. As previously reported, the airline announced its emergency survival plan on Monday, in which the workforce will fall from 15,000 to 9,000 through job cuts and asset sales – if unions approve.
“Sales are falling, you can see that quite clearly,” the source says, adding that the decline is clearly visible in private traveller bookings rather than the business segment. “[Wednesday] was a really bad day with many, many fewer bookings than usual,” the source continues – down by about 30% from a normal Wednesday. The source also says that members of Eurobonus, SAS’s loyalty program, are quickly trying to use up their points.
However, SAS spokesman Johan Dyrendahl put a brave face on the situation: “Considering the amount of press – and not very positive press at the moment – it is not a massive amount of calls or cancellations or lesser bookings.”
