Construction begins on Danish rock museum

€16 million museum to tell story of rock music in Denmark

After a decade in limbo, the Danish capital will finally get a rock ‘n’ roll museum. In a project first revealed in 2003, construction work has begun in the new Musicon district of Roskilde on Denmark’s Rock Museum.

The DKK 120 million (€16 million) museum will tell the history of rock music in Denmark over 60 years using state-of-the-art exhibition technology, light studios, production rooms, a stage and a library. It is scheduled to open in spring 2015.

The museum’s address will have extra significance – on Rabalderstræde, a street named after a song by what many people consider to be Denmark’s best-ever rock band, Gasolin.

Besides the museum, Musicon will also be home to the Roskilde Festival High School and the festival’s new headquarters.
