Corporate groups retreat to Norway and Sweden

Winter is peak season, attracting conference and incentive groups

Winter is well suited to conference and other MICE events. Roros in Norway, close to the Swedish border and only 50 minutes by air from Oslo, has capitalised on this idea. Characterised by well-kept wooden houses, many of which date from the 1670s, and a Baroque-style church, this old mining town was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1980. The listing was expanded in 2010 to include the surrounding region of copper mines. Snow typically covers Roros from October to late April and the region has over 1,000 km of ski trails.
Popular with visiting conference and incentive groups are husky-dog tours, horse-drawn sleigh rides, snowshoe races, target shooting, lassoing or simply husky-puppy cuddling. Professional hotel chefs cook in Laplander tents and snow-scooter safaris venture over the mountain ranges. Corporate groups stay at the Roros Hotel or at mountain lodges like the Fjällnäs Hotel over the Swedish border where the natural environment has a calming effect on the guests.
