Costa Cruises switches from Europe to Asia

2,394-guest Costa Victoria starts operations in Asia today

Four months on from the Concordia tragedy, Costa Cruises says that it has been encouraged enough by the positive response to its cruises in Asia to position one more large-scale cruise ship in the region from May 2013. Until now, the company has been operating the 1,680-guest Costa Classica in Asia, but this ship will be returning to sail the eastern Mediterranean in summer 2012.
In its place – scheduled to start operations from Shanghai today – is the 75,200-ton, 2,394-guest Costa Victoria. Then, in May 2013, the 85,700-ton, 2,680-guest Costa Atlantica will also be deployed for cruises in Asia. The deployment of two large vessels will mean a combined daily guest capacity of 5,074. Costa Cruises is offering what it calls “a unique product for the Asian market called ‘Italy at Sea’, with Italian-style hospitality, design, shopping, art and cuisine”.
