Crown jewels stolen from Oslo hotel

Suitcase of priceless jewels taken from Radisson Blu lobby

Police in Oslo have been called in to investigate the theft of a suitcase carrying priceless crown jewels, which was snatched from the lobby of the city-centre Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel Oslo. These were some of the Ghanaian Ashanti crown jewels, which were travelling with King Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, ruler of the Ashanti. He is in the Norwegian capital representing Ghana at a conference. The crown jewels have been collected over many generations.
“Anyone carrying something of great personal value will understand what a great loss it is when it is stolen,” the king’s secretary, Kofi Owusu Boateng, commented after the incident. “And for anyone who knows our tradition it will be clear that these crown jewels has tremendous value.”
Police say they are working to identify individuals in a set of “good” surveillance pictures of the hotel.
