Cruise giant makes massive order for new ships

Carnival Corp. orders nine new ships to be added by 2022
Cruise colossus Carnival Corp. has announced it will add nine new ships over the period between 2019 and 2022.
They will be built by Fincantieri in Italy and Meyer Werft in Germany (including at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Turku, Finland), and strategic memorandums signed yesterday include options for even more ships in the coming years.
It is not clear which of the company’s brands – Carnival, Holland America, Princess and six other major lines – will get the vessels or how big they will be. But they will be “based on Carnival Corporation’s next-generation ship designs, which will produce the most efficient ships in the company’s history,” Carnival Corp. said.
The new ships are likely to serve both established markets in North America and Europe and new, rapidly growing markets such as China. Carnival’s nine brands currently have 101 ships in operation.
