Cruise line opens island resort to guests

Norwegian Cruise Line passengers file into “destination experience”
Four years in the making, Harvest Caye, Norwegian Cruise Line’s “Caribbean destination experience” two kilometres off the coast of southern Belize, has welcomed its first guests, sailing in on board Norwegian Dawn from New Orleans.
The new destination features Belize’s only cruise ship pier, a white-sand beach, 1,400 m² pool with swim-up bar, multiple dining options, a nature centre and wildlife experiences, a cross-island zip line and adventure tours on the mainland.
NCL says the resort offers travellers “an authentic Belizean experience that highlights the country’s beauty and nature, along with resort-style amenities including a sprawling pool and private luxury beach villas”. Excursions include Mayan ruins, river rafting and nature tours.
“We have worked closely with the government of Belize to ensure that that this spectacular destination was authentic for our guests, provided economic opportunities for the local community and preserved and protected Belize’s incredible natural beauty,” said Frank Del Rio, president and chief executive of Norwegian Cruise Line.
