Car rental companies will experience auto-part shortage following Japan crisis
Car rental firms in Europe and the rest of the world may be affected by the ongoing crisis in Japan – especially as the peak summer season approaches. A number of European car hire companies depend on a steady supply of auto parts from Japan, where production has been suspended following the devastation caused by the earthquake and tsunami.
As a consequence, the president of Auto Europe, Eric Ledroux, has recommended that customers wanting to hire a car this summer should book early. At times when availability gets tighter yet demand is increasing as the travel industry as a whole recovers from the recent recession, there is every possibility that the cost of car rentals “will increase drastically very soon”, he explained.
