Damages deal struck over MH17 crash

Prosecutors still waiting for Russia to give information
A lawyer representing the victims of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17, which crashed in Ukraine two years ago, says the airline has settled damages with relatives of most of the victims of the crash.
There are no further details, Veeru Mewa told Dutch media, as both parties have agreed to secrecy.
MH17 from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur crashed in July 2014 as conflict raged between pro-Russian separatists and Ukrainian troops, killing all 298 people on board, most of them Dutch. A memorial service was held for the victims near Schiphol yesterday.
Under the Montreal Convention that regulates air travel, airlines must pay damages of up to $145,000 to victims’ families, regardless of the circumstances of the crash. Sunday was the deadline for submitting claims.
Meanwhile, prosecutors in the Netherlands are still waiting for Russia to provide information.
