Denmark: More Airbnb beds than hotel beds

Trade association urges more effective taxation
Airbnb is now estimated to have more beds in Denmark than hotels in the country offer, hotel trade body Horesta says. Horesta is calling on the government for improved taxation on rentals of private accommodation.
The number of overnight stays in Denmark booked via Airbnb nearly doubled in 2016, from 1.7 million the previous year to 3 million, while the number of people providing accommodation on the site rose from 21,000 to 30,000.
“Competition should be on equal terms,” Kirsten Munch Andersen of Horesta told the newspaper Politiken. “We believe renting can be abused for illegal hotel operations.”
