Denmark-Sweden ‘bike ferry’ launches

Cycle via ferry between Denmark and Sweden
From June 1, a boat will be ferrying bicycles and passengers between Denmark and Sweden for the first time since 2000.
The 18 metre-long ferry is able to carry 36 passengers and the same number of bicycles between Dragør, south of Copenhagen Airport, and Limhamn south of Malmö.
Plans for a bike ferry have been on the table for several years, but now the necessary planning permission is sorted out and the converted fishing boat M/S Elephanten is ready to sail.
It will make three of the one-hour trips in each direction per day in June, July and August.
The maiden sailing was at 09:00 on June 1. An official ceremony is scheduled to take place on the Dragør quayside on June 3. The line has existed before but stopped in 1999 before the opening of the Øresund/Öresund Bridge in July 2000.
