Denmark’s first eco-label conference venue

Strict requirements for cutting energy and water use and waste
Denmark now has its first Nordic Swan eco-label conference venue. Vilvorde Conference Centre, north of Copenhagen, meets strict requirements for cutting waste volumes and lowering the consumption of energy, chemicals and water.
A Nordic Swan conference centre must go through an extensive certification process, documenting and controlling that it meets strict requirements minimising its environmental impact.
This includes limiting energy consumption and the production of CO2, minimising the consumption of water, utilising eco-labelled dishwashing, laundry and cleaning products, making use of eco-labelled paper in the photocopier, in bathrooms and in the kitchen, and offering a range of organic food and drinks as well as a vegetarian main course every day.
“It means a lot to us. Everything the Nordic Swan stands for is a natural part of Vilvorde’s DNA,” said Ida Jørgensen, Vilvorde’s director.
“For more than 35 years, we have focused on sustainability and minimising our environmental footprint. So we are proud to have received documentation that shows we meet the world’s strictest environmental requirements.”
Vilvorde Conference Centre says it has never used pesticides in its park, cleaning agents never contained perfume, there has always been a focus on waste separation, and in the restaurant the raw produce is carefully selected with a focus on the organic aspect, animal welfare and Fairtrade.
