Dubai world’s busiest for international pax

It takes crown as world’s busiest international airport

The city with the world’s tallest building is now also home to the world’s busiest airport for international passengers. Dubai International replaces London Heathrow for the first time, although Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is still the world’s busiest airport overall.

Dubai International saw 70.5 million international passengers streaming through its sparkling halls last year, 6% more than in 2013. This was despite the fact that it has to redirect some flights to the city’s second airport, Al Maktoum International at Dubai World Central while repairing its two runways. Dubai International is aiming at 79 million this year. Not long ago just a sleepy fishing village, Dubai is now a skyscraper-filled commercial hub.

Heathrow handled 68.1 million and has been struggling for years to win public and political approval for a third runway.
