Manufacturer abandons entry to 130-160-seat narrowbody market
Embraer is abandoning plans to enter to compete in the 130-160-seat narrowbody market, because both Airbus and Boeing are now developing more economical and fuel-efficient versions of the Airbus A320 and Boeing 737. This makes this corner of the market very challenging, the Brazilian manufacturer says.
Instead, it will focus on creating a fuel-efficient version of its E-jet family, a move that would consolidate its leadership in the 70-130 seat market. The aircraft could enter into service arinound 2018, with a launch customer announced possibly in the middle of next year.
