Emirates Airline ready for big push in Spain

Airline acts after seeing huge demand for its Madrid service

Just a few days after saying it would double its frequencies to Madrid from July 1, Emirates has announced that it will launch a new route to Barcelona on July 3. Barcelona will be the airline’s 30th European destination, served with a 360-seat Boeing 777-300ER. It wants to launch a major boost to its services to Spain, it says, after seeing huge demand for the Madrid route, which began in August 2010.
Tim Clark, president, Emirates Airline: “Emirates is making a very significant investment in Spain. To announce a new destination and a doubling of services to an existing gateway at the same time demonstrates our belief in the market and our commitment to the country. […] Madrid has been a strong performer and the demand is there for a second frequency, while we need a second point serving the dynamic Catalonia region.”
