Emirates to open up route to Norway

Direct flights to and from Oslo start in September

Emirates will begin operating flights directly to and from Oslo Airport on September 2. The United Arab Emirates airline will fly the route seven days a week with a Boeing 777-300.

“This is one of the fastest growing airlines in the world and we have been working to get this service in place for a long time,” said Nic Nilsen, managing director of Oslo Airport. “This is perfectly in line with our strategy of providing long-haul routes to attractive destinations from Oslo Airport.”

The Boeing will be able to carry eight passengers in First Class, 42 in Business and 310 in Economy. Total capacity for the route is 220,000 passengers per year.

Oslo Airport stressed that from Dubai, Emirates offers a worldwide network of onward connections, including Bangkok, Phuket, Singapore, Manila, Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong.

But the Norwegians also have an eye on boosting exports. “We expect the service to be well-received, including by exporters of fresh salmon,” Nilsen said.
