Employee stabbed to death at Lapland resort

Suspect held after woman dies in remote destination
A man has been arrested close to a remote resort in Finnish Lapland after his Scottish girlfriend, aged 26 from the UK, died from stab wounds. Both were employees at the resort.
The suspect, aged 36 and believed to be Czech, offered no resistance after a police search found him with the couple’s dogs in hostile terrain in temperatures of -30C near the town of Kuttanen in the far northwest of Finland. He was treated at a hospital in Rovaniemi.
The couple were seasonal employees with tour operator Santa Safari, an inbound travel company. The company’s recruitment ads say that working in this remote environment is “not for the faint hearted” yet offers staff “a lifetime experience like no other”.
The company said in a statement: “We are all in shock from this tragic news and our thoughts go out to her family. Our team is working closely with the Finnish Police and relevant authorities to support the investigation that is now under way.”
