Epic cruise ship to sail year-round in Europe

World’s third biggest cruise vessel to be based in Barcelona

The suitably named Norwegian Epic, a huge 4,100-passenger vessel, will be deployed year-round in Europe, Norwegian Cruise Line has revealed. It will move full-time to Barcelona in April 2015.

Speaking in Rotterdam on board the soon-to-launch Norwegian Getaway, which is due in Southampton this week before sailing to its home port of Miami, the cruise line’s chief executive Kevin Sheehan declared: “Consumers in Europe love the ship [Norwegian Epic].”

Norwegian Epic, the world’s third largest cruise ship, already spends summers sailing the Mediterranean from Barcelona and winters sailing out of Miami to the Caribbean. But from 2015 it will be the biggest cruise ship ever based year-round in Europe.

It is not yet clear whether Epic will replace Spirit or Jade, two smaller Norwegian ships currently based year-round in Europe. Itineraries will be announced in March.
