The Danish capital gets another foodie tourism boost as a taco truck is acclaimed in a new Lonely Planet list.
A food truck selling gourmet tacos and Mexican food at Copenhagen’s Torvehallerne farmers’ market has been named the best in Europe by Lonely Planet.
Rosio Sanchez’s food truck, Hija de Sanchez, was rated by a team of “food experts” including Noma chef René Redzepi, foodie bloggers, restaurant industry insiders and food writers, the Copenhagen Post reports.
They highlighted Sanchez’s stall as boasting the best street food in Europe in Lonely Planet’s latest survey.
The new high profile is a huge coup for Hija de Sanchez, which started out as a Mexican food truck in 2015. Sanchez, who was previously a dessert chef at Noma, says her idea “was born of my personal cravings for Mexican food”.
She has also recently opened a restaurant in Kødbyen in Vesterbro.
She spent much of her career working in high-end restaurants, but says she “craved working in a place that was way more casual, something more approachable, and something that would have a connection to my soul”.
