Eurovision gets further security measures

Metal detectors and more bomb-sniffing dogs to be used

Security at the Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö in May will be boosted, Swedish police said this week. Airport-style metal detectors for all spectators and a greater number of bomb-sniffing dogs will be deployed at the event. Police said that bomb threats have plagued Eurovision in the past and that they would do everything to avoid them in Malmö.
“There have even been demonstrations [before] but nothing that has ruined the broadcast,” police spokesman Carl-Axel Andersson told Sveriges Television. “We will ensure it doesn’t happen here either. We’re going to search all the areas where there’ll be delegates so they can work in a safe environment.”
