Ex-NCL president joins Norwegian cruise startup

The former Norwegian Cruise Line president Helge R Naarstad is on board as chairman of the board.

Soon-to-launch luxury expedition cruise line Norwegian Yacht Voyages has revealed that it is welcoming Helge R Naarstad, former president of Norwegian Cruise Line – or Norwegian Caribbean Line as it used to be known – as chairman of the board.

Naarstad is also known for starting Sea Goddess, reputed to have been the first true luxury cruise line, according to Cruise Industry News. In 2015, he was named as one of the world’s ten cruise legends by the same publication.

Led by Ulf Henrick Wynnsdale, president and CEO, Norwegian Yacht Voyages plans to offer a luxury expedition product, with the first of a number of ships launching in the early 2020s with worldwide deployment.

Renowned team
Einar Hareide, an award-winning Norwegian designer known for having been design director of SAAB motor cars for 15 years, has designed the LNG-powered 30,000 tons ships, which will have capacity for around 220 guests.

Cruise ship designer Petter Yran, who has designed ships for Regent Seven Seas, Seabourn, Silversea, Holland America Line, RCCL and Disney, is also on board, as is the Finnish cruise ship architectural and engineering firm Deltaamarin.
